Global Affairs Major

Global affairs is a broad field that looks at interactions between countries, governments and international organizations on a worldwide scale. It encompasses a variety of issues including global economics, political stability, security and peacebuilding. It also covers regional and cultural dynamics such as migration, terrorism, drug trafficking and global warming. As a global affairs major, you’ll build the skills to analyze these challenges from different angles and find thoughtful solutions.

You’ll learn about the world and your place in it with real-world examples, simulations like Model United Nations and hands-on research opportunities. You’ll also have the chance to gain valuable professional experience through internships and our nationally recognized co-op program. Through these experiences, you’ll gain the tools for a successful career in government, international business, nongovernmental and nonprofit groups and more.

You’ll learn to apply your academic training through our capstone projects, in which you’ll work as a member of an international policy task force with external partners in the US and abroad. You’ll have the unique opportunity to explore foreign cultures firsthand with our Global Field Intensives, or through short-term study abroad programs curated and supported by our faculty. In addition to your core classes, you’ll take courses in sister disciplines—such as politics, history and economics—to develop a well-rounded understanding of the global community.
